Rave Reviews
Out of the 10 footbags I own the 8 panel dirtbag is my favorite with the 32 panel dirtbag coming in a close second. For me the size to weight ratio makes them easy to control. I would recommend these to anyone. Fast shipping and a great product.

Tips and How-To's

HOW TO REFILL A SANDBAG

Hand-made, sand filled footbags will have a tendency to lose sand over time. Refilling a sand filled footbag is easy and can be done in minutes with a "scratch awl" (e.g., blunt, tapered instrument used for piercing wood or leather). Carefully ease the awl into a seam between a stitch creating a small opening to add sand. Add your sand and then to close the hole, simply roll the footbag between your hands to again pull the stitches uniformly throughout the entire footbag.
Another tip to try for sand filled footbags is to use a small amount of mink oil after your footbag has been wet and then dried. The mink oil will help the suede stay "brushed up" which will help retain the sand inside.

HOW TO WASH A FOOTBAG

Synthetic suede footbags can be washed in several ways. Most synthetic suedes used in footbags are not 100% color fast so washing a footbag in cold water is always a good idea. For both plastic pellet and sand filled footbags (not facile) you can put the footbag in the pocket of a pair of jeans and run it through the washer and dryer. This fabric is iron strong and actually likes to be played wet.
For facile fabric which is much softer, you can use cold water and mild soap to hand wash the footbag. With facile, do not roll vigorously when wet. Facile does not like to be played wet so allow your footbag to dry on the window sill before you resume play.
Wash your footbag regularly as accumulated grit will wear out your footbag.

HYBRID JUGGLE BALL MAINTENENCE

Tossaball®Hybrid Juggle Ball Maintenance:
Machine wash cold water and tumble dry. Wash
whenever dirty. Wash white balls separate.
Washing before initial play will smooth out rough
edges.

BIRD SEED FILLED JUGGLE BALL MAINTENENCE

Do not submerge balls in water (organic filler material).
Use an old toothbrush with mild soap and a small amount of
water to gently brush clean.

Footbag Trivia & Thoughts on Footbag & Juggling

Plastic pellet filled footbags weigh in at 30 to 45 grams.
Sand filled footbags weigh in at 45 to 60 grams.

It takes twice as many individual stitches to produce a sand filled footbag verses a plastic pellet filled footbag to keep the sand inside the footbag.

All Flying Clipper footbags are hand sewn. It takes approximately 25 minutes per footbag of sewing time to produce one Dirtbag® 8 footbag (a footbag with 8 panels). A Dirtbag® 62 (yep, 62 panels) takes more than two hours to hand sew.

Footbags were originally made from cowhide, internally hand-stitched and filled with high density plastic pellets. It was common to have to look through a bin of 100 hacky sacks® to try and find the one that you thought you could break-in. The two piece construction of the original hacky sacks did not lend itself to a round sphere. We used to say that hacky sack® was proof positive that the egg came first!

Flying Clipper was among the first to branch out to create new and different designs focusing on roundness, durability and all around footbag play. We are the oldest continually operating footbag manufacturer on the planet.

While footbagging has always been our passion here at Flying Clipper, the natural extension is to combine using our feet and hands together simultaneously, pushing the envelope as to what can be done using all four extremities to manipulate objects through space. Most footbaggers can juggle while most jugglers do not footbag. The reason is that in the early days, footbags were very firm and not always round which made them hard to kick as a beginner. And as a beginner, juggling was easier to learn.

In the beginning footbags were always "kicked" and never "stalled," or stopped on the foot during play. And then Kenny Shults, a long time supporter of Flying Clipper, created delay moves using different sides of his feet. At last the footbag community had its "Michael Jordan." Other kickers picked up and carried on what Kenny Shults did in the pioneering portion of footbag as a sport. You see, until delay moves were created, the bridge between feet and hands could not be advanced. Stalling or delaying the footbag is the same movement done by the hands when juggling. That type of movement has advanced so far that some kickers and jugglers are now seamlessly juggling with combination of feet and hands.

Since its inception in the early 1980's Flying Clipper has also produced its line of juggling balls. Early on as with footbag, all balls were made by the partners, Reed, Dennis and Jim. More than 60,000 juggling balls were produced by the partners over an 18-year span. We know handmade juggling balls inside and out! Recently, with the addition of our Tossaball® line of juggling balls using double stitch hand sewn techniques, we created a superior line of juggling balls. Many pro jugglers are now coming to our Tossaball® line.

Now Flying Clipper has created a brand new way to make the first truly washable professional quality juggling ball. We call this new method of sewing our "Hybrid" line of juggling balls.
